Inspired by the functional yet deeply symbolic objects in the Architectures of Protection exhibition, this workshop focuses on creating air-dry clay whistles that represent personal or cultural forms of protection. Drawing from cultural or historical examples of sound as a form of protection (such as alarm systems, ritualistic bells, or conch shells), participants will design their whistle as both a personal artifact and a symbol of resilience. Artists in the exhibition who explore functionality or ritualistic forms would be a great starting point.
