The exhibition Urban Thunderbirds | Ravens in a Material World is the result of a creative collaboration with co-curators and artists lessLIE and Rande Cook, as well as the artists they invited to participate along with them, Francis Dick and Dylan Thomas. The themes addressed in this exhibition evolved directly from the concepts being explored in the work of these artists. The conversation began with the co-curators, lessLIE and Rande Cook. They documented the progression of ideas for the project through an email conversation, included in this publication, that spanned several months leading up to the exhibition. This candid conversation articulates the complex system within which these artists produce their work, and their personal view of the direction they, as First Nations artists, should be taking.
