Art Experimentation

Instructor - April Caverhill
AGGV Studio - 1040 Moss Street

Throughout the nine-week winter session, young artists will make art in new, creative and thoughtful ways while exploring two AGGV exhibitions: Tender Touch, examining tattooing as an art practice and Crossing, examining art, heritage, and personal journey by delving into the stories of three local artists who embarked on transformative journeys from Asia to Canada.

During the nine-week session, our skilled Art Educator, April Caverhill, will choose an individual artwork from the exhibition and lead your child through a series of questions that encourages close looking and self-discovery about the artists, their processes and ideas in order to develop a better understanding of the world around them.

Taking inspiration from the works and ideas in the Gallery, young artists have hands-on studio time with our educator to experiment with a variety of mediums and processes, creating their own works of art in sculpture, textile, drawing, painting and much more.

* Some of the artworks in our current exhibitions include nude figures. While the studio program will not be focusing on these artworks, feel free to check out our guide on how to talk with children about nudity in art here.
